Hooten Family Healing Center is proud to introduce the newest member of our staff. Please welcome Rachel Guerry! Here is her story in her own words.
As a 16-year-old competitive volleyball player with my entire life still ahead of me, I unfortunately developed a herniated disc in my lower back that caused excruciating pain and sometimes an inability to walk. After months of pushing through the pain, I finally had to step off the court and seek a more permanent fix before any further damage was done. Countless visits with spinal specialists and physical therapists and prescribed muscle relaxers had very little progress to show. I was even informed by one of these doctors that if I continued to play volleyball at the level I was, I would need a spinal fusion. This terrified me as it seemed like I was being forced to choose between the sport I love and having a healthy spine for the rest of my life. Frustrated with the failed options and treatments that had been given to me, my dad and I decided to start seeing a chiropractor for the first time, Dr. Hooten. Within a mere 3 months of getting adjustments, I was pain free and getting back to normal function. Chiropractic saved my love for playing volleyball and my spinal health as I went on to continue playing lots of volleyball in undergrad and still enjoy some pick-up games now!
As it had turned out, I was so inspired by what Dr. Hooten was able to give back to me that I decided to go to chiropractic school myself. I am currently still in school and have been blessed with the opportunity to be a student intern with Hooten Family Healing Center. I will continue to strive to help others in any way possible and cannot wait to be able to build such an amazing community that is demonstrated here at Hooten Family Healing!
